This is a color etching, printed from an oil painting by the artist Joseph Marianus (Augsburg, 1738–1788). It depicts the Naval Battle of Dogger Bank on August 5, 1781, between the Dutch fleet, commanded by Rear Admiral Johan Zoutman, and the British fleet, commanded by Vice Admiral Hyde Parker.
This battle was part of the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, which was connected to the American Revolutionary War. The battle ended without either side achieving a decisive victory.
This is an original print from “Complete History of the Seven Years of Confusion and the ensuing Revolution in the United Netherlands, Printed 1789, it comes with a matching frame, measuring 56 cm wide and 50 cm high, and is in good condition.
