Land of the Moon Flower was compiled by Gerald Sparrow, an English lawyer, judge, and travel writer. He served as a judge in the International Court of Justice in Bangkok (trial cases involving non-Thai nationals), was married to a Thai national, and lived in Thailand for 23 years. He is also the president of the Club of Ten, an apartheid organization, and is the author of more than 40 books.

This book tells the author's story as a British diplomat, events, and observations from his 23 years in Siam between 1930 and 1953, and his close connection with the Thai royal family, including stories about his captivity by Japanese soldiers during World War II, prosecuting opium smugglers, witnessing the execution, local political and social attitudes.
