หนังสือ Voyage de Siam des Peres Jesuites, envoyés par le roy, aux Indes à la Chine เล่มนี้เป็นหนังสือที่รวบรวมเรื่องราว และข้อสังเกต เกี่ยวกับประเทศสยามในทุกๆ ด้าน เช่น ดาราศาสตร์ ฟิสิกส์ ภูมิศาสตร์ อุทกศาสตร์ และประวัติศาสตร์ โดยคณะบาทหลวงที่นำโดย บาทหลวง Guy Tachard นักบวชเยซุอิต ชาวฝรั่งเศส หนึ่งในคณะทูต ที่พระเจ้าหลุยส์ ที่ 14 ทรงส่งมายังประเทศสยาม ซึ่งตรงกับรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช โดยคณะทูตชุดนี้ถือเป็นคณะทูตชุดแรกของฝรั่งเศสที่ส่งมายังประเทศสยาม โดยมีจุดมุ่งหมายสำคัญคือ

1 เพื่อโน้มน้าวให้พระเจ้าแผ่นดินสยามเปลี่ยนศาสนาจากพุทธมาเป็นคริสเตียน

2 เพื่อส่งเสริมการค้าระหว่างกัน ผ่านบริษัท French East Indies

3 เพื่อเป็นการคานอำนาจทางการค้าทางตะวันออกไกลกับพ่อค้าชาวดัชท์ (Dutch East Indies)

คณะทูตชุดนี้ นำโดย ราชทูต Alexandre, Chevalier de Chaumont นายพลเรือแห่งราชนาวีฝรั่งเศส จากตระกูลขุนนางเก่า โดยมีผู้ร่วมคณะ อาทิ Chevalier de Forbin, บาทหลวง Timoléon de Choisy ซึ่งเป็นผู้ช่วยทูต และบาทหลวง Guy Tachard ซึ่งเป็นผู้เรียบเรียงหนังสือเล่มนี้ คณะราชทูตฝรั่งเศสได้ออกเดินทางจากเมือง Brest ทางตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของฝรั่งเศส ผ่านทางแหลม good hope มายังเมืองจาวา และสิ้นสุดที่ประเทศสยาม ใช้เวลาในการเดินทาง 7 เดือน คณะทูตเดินทางถึงเมืองสยามปลายเดือนกันยายน พ.ศ. 2228 (ค.ศ. 1685) และได้รับการต้อนรับอย่างยิ่งใหญ่จากฝ่ายไทยซึ่งมี Constantin Falcon หรือ เจ้าพระยาวิชเยนทร์ อรรคมหาเสนาบดี ผู้ที่พระนารายณ์มหาราช ทรงแต่งตั้งให้เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบในการต้อนรับราชทูตและคณะ คณะทูตฝรั่งเศสออกเดินทางกลับประเทศพร้อมด้วยคณะทูตจากฝ่ายสยาม นำโดยออกพระวิสูตรสุนทร (ปาน) พร้อมด้วยราชทูตอีก 2 คน คือ ออกหลวงกัลยาราชไมตรี อุปทูต และออกขุนศรีวิสารวาจา ตรีทูต เมื่อวันที่ 22 ธันวาคม ค.ศ. 1685

นอกเหนือจากเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับประเทศสยามแล้ว Tachard ยังได้นำเสนอเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับประเทศอัฟริกา และประเทศจาวา (Indonesia) ในเล่มนี้ด้วย หนังสือปกแข็งหุ้มหนังขนาดใหญ่ 19.5 x 24.5 ซม หนาประมาณ 424 หน้า ตีพิมพ์เป็นฉบับ First Edition โดย chez Arnould Seneuze et Daniel Horthemels กรุง Paris เมื่อวันที่ 19 พฤศจิกายน ปี ค.ศ. 1686 พร้อมภาพพิมพ์แบบ copper plate engraving จำนวนมาก หนังสืออายุ 339 ปี เป็นหนังสือเดิมๆ ทั้งเล่ม ที่อยู่ในสภาพดี หน้าครบ ถือว่าเป็นหนังสือสำหรับนักสะสม ที่หายากยิ่งในสภาพเดิมๆ เช่นนี้ ภายในเล่มสะอาด เรียบร้อย สมบูรณ์ที่สุด

The book Voyage de Siam des Pères Jésuites, envoyés par le roy, aux Indes à la Chine is a compilation of accounts and observations about the Kingdom of Siam in various aspects, including astronomy, physics, geography, hydrology, and history. It was written by a group of Jesuit priests led by Father Guy Tachard, a French Jesuit missionary, who was part of the diplomatic mission sent by King Louis XIV of France to Siam during the reign of King Narai the Great. This diplomatic mission was the first French envoy to Siam, with three main objectives:

- To persuade the King of Siam to convert from Buddhism to Christianity.

- To promote trade relations through the French East Indies company.

- To counterbalance Dutch commercial dominance in the Far East (Dutch East Indies).

The mission was led by the French ambassador Alexandre, Chevalier de Chaumont, an admiral from an old noble family. Other members included Chevalier de Forbin, Father Timoléon de Choisy (assistant envoy), and Father Guy Tachard, who compiled this book. The French diplomatic mission departed from Brest, in northwestern France, traveled around the Cape of Good Hope, passed through Java, and finally arrived in Siam after a seven-month journey.

The envoys reached Siam in late September 1685 and were warmly welcomed by the Siamese side, with Constantin Falcon (also known as Chao Phraya Wichayen), the Grand Minister appointed by King Narai, overseeing their reception. The French delegation later returned to France, accompanied by a Siamese diplomatic mission led by Ok Phra Wisut Sunthon (Kosa Pan), along with two other envoys, Ok Luang Kalyanarat Maitri (deputy envoy) and Ok Khun Si Wisarn Wacha (third envoy), on December 22, 1685.

Beyond its accounts of Siam, Tachard’s book also presents narratives about Africa and Java (modern-day Indonesia). This large, leather-bound hardcover book measures 19.5 x 24.5 cm, consists of approximately 424 pages, and was first published by Chez Arnould Seneuze et Daniel Horthemels in Paris on November 19, 1686. It includes numerous copper plate engravings. At 339 years old, this original edition remains in excellent condition, with all pages intact, clean, and well-preserved.
