หลังการรุกรานไทยของญี่ปุ่นในวันที่ 7-8 ธันวาคม ค.ศ. 1941 จนต้องทำให้จอมพล ป.พิบูลสงคราม ต้องประกาศสงครามกับอังกฤษและสหรัฐอเมริกา ในวันที่ 25 มกราคม ปี ค.ศ. 1952 พณฯ เสนีย์ ปราโมช เอกอัครราชทูตไทยประจำกรุงวอชิงตัน ปฏิเสธที่จะส่งคำประกาศสงครามต่อรัฐบาลสหรัฐฯ ดังนั้นสหรัฐอเมริกาจึงไม่ได้ประกาศสงครามกับประเทศไทย ได้จัดตั้งขบวนการเสรีไทยด้วยความช่วยเหลือจากอเมริกา โดยการสรรหานักเรียนไทยในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาเพื่อทำงานร่วมกับหน่วยกิจการยุทธศาสตร์ (O.S.S.) เพื่อจะแทรกซึมเข้ามาในประเทศไทย โดยขบวนการเสรีไทยสายอเมริกา ได้แบ่งออกเป็นสองกลุ่มคือ

กลุ่มที่ 1 นำโดย ม.ล. ขาบ กุญชร และ Maj Capelan นายทหารอเมริกา ได้เดินทางล่วงหน้าไปที่เมืองจุงกิง ซึ่งเป็นที่ตั้งของรัฐบาลเจียงไคเช็ค และเป็นที่ตั้งของหน่วย O.S.S. ประจำประเทศจีน เพื่อจัดตั้งหน่วยต่อต้านในประเทศไทย

กลุ่มที่ 2 ทหารเสรีไทยที่เหลืออีก 19 คน นำโดย พ.ท. Nicol Smith และนายทหาร O.S.S. 3 นาย เดินทางมายังค่ายฝึก 101 ของ O.S.S. ที่ตั้งอยู่ในแคว้นอัสสัมเพื่อฝึกเพิ่มเติม ภารกิจของหน่วยนี้คือการสืบเหตุการณ์ภายในประเทศไทยให้แก่หน่วย O.S.S. ส่งอาวุธและทหารมาช่วยฝึกแบบกองโจร การบ่อนทำลายกองทหารญี่ปุ่น ตลอดจนแลกเปลี่ยนข่าวกรองกับจีนเกี่ยวกับความเคลื่อนไหวของญี่ปุ่น

The book Into Siam, compiled by Lt. Col. Nicol Smith and Blake Clark, who previously worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), recounts key moments during World War II involving Thailand.

Following the Japanese invasion of Thailand on December 7–8, 1941, Field Marshal P. Phibunsongkhram was forced to declare war on Britain and the United States on January 25, 1942. However, His Excellency Seni Pramoj, the Thai ambassador to Washington, refused to deliver the declaration of war to the U.S. government. As a result, the U.S. did not declare war on Thailand. Instead, the Free Thai Movement (Seri Thai) was established with the assistance of the U.S. This movement involved recruiting Thai students in the U.S. to collaborate with the OSS in infiltrating Thailand.

The American branch of the Free Thai Movement was divided into two groups:

Group 1, led by M.L. Khab Khunchon and Maj. Capelan, an American officer, traveled ahead to Chungking (Chongqing), where Chiang Kai-shek's government and the OSS unit for China were based, to set up anti-Japanese resistance in Thailand.

Group 2, consisting of 19 Free Thai soldiers, led by Lt. Col. Nicol Smith and three OSS officers, traveled to OSS Training Camp 101 in Assam for additional training. Their mission was to gather intelligence from within Thailand for the OSS, deliver arms, train guerrilla forces, sabotage Japanese military efforts, and exchange intelligence with China regarding Japanese movements.

This book documents the military operations of the American branch of the Free Thai Movement, which secretly carried out operations in Thailand during World War II. It includes many illustrations, with the inner cover featuring a portrait of King Rama VIII.

The book measures 15 x 22 cm, has 315 pages, and was published by Bob Merrill Company, New York, in 1945 (1st edition). It is in fair condition.
