"Four Years in Upper Burma" is compiled and edited by W.R. Winston, an English writer and military officer. He created this book to gather various information about Burma during the reign of King Thibaw of the Konbaung dynasty, the last monarch of Burma. As Burma was a British colony with English people living far from their homeland, it was necessary for them to learn more about the annexed territory, including the spread of Christianity. Winston considered Burma an interesting preliminary source of information. His travels covered Mandalay and Upper Burma. In 1887, he discussed British influence in the Shan States, British governance, issues with narcotics, alcohol and opium, ethnic groups, religious institutions and customs, the lives of villagers, the ideal missionary, and unconventional missionary ideas, as well as leprosy patients in Mandalay. This book genuinely reflects the perspectives and attitudes of colonial British people toward Eastern countries.

The hardcover English book measures 14.5 x 19 cm, is 266 pages long, and is divided into 20 chapters. It includes 29 black and white illustrations and one map of Burma. It is a 1st edition published by C.H. Kelly, London, in 1892. The book is in original and fair condition.
