The book "In the Valley of the Yangtse" is compiled and collected by Mrs. Amy Foster, affiliated with the London Missionary Society. Mrs. Foster, a British citizen, traveled regularly to Hong Kong in the year 1878 and later held the position of Honorary Missionary in Hankow in 1884. She spent most of her life in China. This hardcover book is sized 17 x 21.5 cm, with 216 pages and 64 black and white illustrations. It is divided into 8 main sections, covering topics such as the problems caused by the Yangtse River, which is considered the most important river in China and the longest river in Asia, as well as issues related to disaster victims, homelessness, Chinese superstitions and beliefs, illness, opium use among the Chinese, education of Chinese children, and the safety concerns of foreign workers in China. Since Mrs. Foster lived extensively in China, her various experiences make for a highly interesting narrative. This book was published as the 1st edition by the London Missionary Society in London in 1899. The book is in fair condition.
