หนังสือ The Kingdom of the Yellow Robe เป็นหนังสือที่รวบรวมโดย Ernest Young ในช่วงรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 5 ซึ่งเป็นยุคที่มีการปฏิรูปประเทศในทุกๆ ด้าน เพื่อรองรับการพัฒนาประเทศแบบสมัยใหม่

Ernest Young เป็นชาวอังกฤษที่เชี่ยวชาญในวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ และภูมิศาสตร์ ที่รัชกาลที่ 5 ทรงไว้วางพระราชหฤทัยจ้างมาให้มาวางรากฐานระบบการเรียนการสอนในโรงเรียนสมัยใหม่ โดยเป็นครูประจำโรงเรียนพระตำหนักสวนกุหลาบ และดำรงตำแหน่งครูใหญ่โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบฝ่ายอังกฤษในช่วงปี ค.ศ. 1894-1895 นอกจากนั้นยังเป็นผู้ก่อตั้งโรงเรียนแผนที่ ในสังกัดกรมแผนที่ โดยคนไทยจะรู้จักกันในนามของ "ครูยัง"

ตลอดระยะเวลา 5 ปีที่ครูยังปฏิบัติงานอยู่ในกรุงสยาม เขามีความชื่นชมคนไทย และความเป็นไทย เขาได้ศึกษาวิถีชีวิต ความเป็นอยู่ของผู้คน สภาพสังคม เศรษฐกิจ การเกษตรกรรม การปกครอง โดยเฉพาะเรื่องศาสนา ความเชื่อ และประเพณีต่างๆ โดยรวบรวมเรื่องราวต่างๆ เหล่านี้ไว้ในหนังสือเล่มนี้ เนื่องจากเป็นหนังสือที่นำเสนอเรื่องราวต่างๆ เกี่ยวกับประเทศสยามในแง่มุมต่างๆ อย่างครบถ้วน จึงมีการนำมาแปลและพิมพ์ใหม่หลายครั้งทั้งภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษ

หนังสือขนาด 23.5 x 15.5 cm หนา 400 หน้า พร้อมภาพประกอบขาวดำ 44 ภาพ เนื้อหาแบ่งออกเป็น 20 หัวข้อ ตีพิมพ์เป็นฉบับ first edition โดยสำนักพิมพ์ Archibald Constable & Co, England ในปี ค.ศ. 1898 หนังสืออยู่ในสภาพพอดี ตามอายุหนังสือ

"The Kingdom of the yellow robe" was compiled by Ernest Young. This book was printed during the reign of King Rama V which was an era in which the country reformed in every aspect to support the development of the modern country

Ernest Young is an Englishman known by Thai as “Khru Young”, he specialized in science and geography and King Rama V relied on him to lay the modern teaching and learning foundation and education system in modern schools as well as appointing him as a teacher at Pratumnak Suan Kularb School and served as principal of the English Suan Kularb School during the years 1894-1895. He was also the founder of the Survey School under the Royal Thai Survey Department.

Throughout the 5 years that Ernest Young worked in Siam, he admired the Thai people. He studied the way of life, Thai livelihoods, social conditions, economy, agriculture, and government, especially religion, beliefs, and traditions, and written down in this book.

The book is 23.5 x 15.5 cm, 400 pages, 44 black and white illustrations, divided into 20 topics. This book was published as the first edition by Archibald Constable & Co, England in 1898 in fair and acceptable condition.
